Deliveroo Pickup

Users:
Customers and restaurants (iOS · Android · Web)

Aim for the business:
Our aim as a company is to become the definitive food company feeding everyone three times a day. To come closer to achieving that, we know that we need to serve more occasions for our customers. Adding Pickup to our fulfilment methods is an important step to give consumers more choice, selection and convenience, and to give restaurants an opportunity to increase their offering and order volume.

Problem areas:
Grab-and-go culture is prevalent in certain markets, and becoming more so in others. Most restaurants don’t offer an easy way to order ahead, resulting in queues and long wait times. In times of high demand, delivery times rise and selection reduces. With collection as a fulfilment type, we can still offer selection to users who are close by or don’t mind a walk to get their food.

Goal:
Increase orders placed from customers and increase the number of orders restaurants receive.

Team:
Pickup is a combined effort between the consumer and restaurant product team. Overall the whole pickup team is made up of 2 PMs, 14 engineers, 1 data scientist and me as the lead product designer working closely with a content designer and user researcher.

We are currently in the process of rolling this feature out, with the aim to have it available globally within a few months.
